Steven's obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Steven Earl Anderson, who left this world on December 29, 2023. Born on May 16, 1945, Steve lived a life full of creativity and positivity, spreading love and joy to those around him.

Steve was born in Charleston, SC, then moved around quite a bit in his childhood, living in South Carolina, Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Wisconsin, and Indiana. He eventually landed at the University of Colorado at Boulder for college, graduating in 1967.  Upon graduation and finding out that he was being drafted into the Army during Vietnam, he enlisted in the Navy instead (Go Navy!). He completed flight training at Naval Air Station Pensacola in 1968, and served as an Officer in the Navy from 1967-1971.  After exiting the service, Steve attended Law School at the University of Kentucky, receiving his J.D. in 1975.  Steve practiced law as a Plaintiffs Aviation Accident Litigation Attorney in New York and Connecticut.  Over the next years, Steve lived in New York, Connecticut, Colorado, and California, finally settling in Cave Creek, Arizona.

Steve is survived by his loving wife of 17 years Betsy Anderson, daughter Lauren Sullivan, son Zach Anderson, granddaughters Amy and Kylie Sullivan, stepsons Chris Pink and Jett (Beth) Pink, step-grandchildren Mason, Sullivan and Waylon Pink,  former spouse Carol McCandless Anderson, older sister Sue (Steve) Garrison, younger brother Paul (Mindy) Anderson, and many extended family members.  Steve was preceded in death by his parents Hester and Earl Anderson, and younger brother Bruce Anderson.  Steve loved his family greatly.

Steve was a man of faith.  He prayed regularly, and was very active with prayer ministries through his church.  His relationship with God was a great comfort to him, and his trust and hope in God was inspiring to those around him.  When his children would come to him with a problem, he would help them reframe it to focus on the positive, and then encourage them to offer it up to God. Certainly many of those left behind will hear his voice in our head when we face adversity, encouraging us to ask, what if everything is coming together perfectly right now, and what if that's the truth?

Steve's passing was an unexpected loss, but we will remember him as a light who never ceased to shine, illuminating our lives with his love, warmth, laughter, endless ideas, grand plans, and creative pursuits.

*no services will be held.  Steve will be laid to rest at a National Cemetery to be determined*
