Dear Leann, Tori and Aksal,

I am writing to express my deepest sympathy for your loss. I have had the privilege of knowing Steve over the past year while coming to the house to assist Leann with her medical care.

Steve was a straightforward, down-to-earth person for whom I had a great deal of respect. I will always remember his concern regarding the white dog hair on my black scrubs; without him there to help manage the dogs, I suspect I will be wearing that hair as a permanent reminder of Steve’s kindness and concern for everyone’s well-being.

Please know that I will continue to keep a close eye on Leann and offer her my support in Steve's absence.

With heartfelt condolences, RIP Steve.

- Hollie

I’ve known Steve since I was about 7 years old. He married my cousin Leeann and we were incredibly close. I have so many memories with him that I hold very dear to my heart so I thought I’d just share a few. Him and my dad took me along to see a lot of movies, the original Jurassic Park being one of them. I felt super special to be able to hang out with the guys and watch action films with them while my mom and Leeann were off doing something else. I spent A LOT of weekends at Steve and Leeann’s house bbqing, shopping, sight seeing. Steve was great at showing me new things, places to eat and just exploring. The best times were when we would stay up late playing old computer games and learning strategies to beat opponents. He taught me how to drive stick too. I didn’t want to because it terrified me, but that’s the thing about Steve. He had this way about him that gave you confidence and reassurance when needed. Even as an adult and 1000’s of miles away, he found ways to make sure I knew he still loved and cared for me and my family.

- Sorry Steve, I still don't like stick. I also don’t like Coke so I can’t drink one for ya….but every time I fire up that grill and have a Tri Tip, It’ll be for you. Every time I see a Root beer float at Disneyland, you’ll be on my mind and our memories will always be plastered throughout the state of California (and once in Colorado when I was lucky enough to visit). I will continue to feel your presence and love always.

I remember coming over to meet with Tori and meeting Steve for the first time. He brought me into the living room with the awesome reclining couch and started playing a Star Wars game (Star wars: Squadrons). It was awesome. I remember him showing me his gun collection. We connected in a nerdy way and it was an experience.

One of my favorite memories  with my father was when he and I went drinking together on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. It was just me and him, we walked to different bars, had Jell-o shots, shared lots of good laughs. Any time I had where it was just me and my dad, just hanging out was good. I have so many stories to share, and words will never do it justice. My dad and I didn't always agree, but sometimes, when it was just me and him, all that other stuff just melted away and it was just a girl and her daddy. He wasn't the most emotional man, at least not to the public, but the memories I will cherish the most were when he would call me baby girl, give me big ole bear hugs and say that he loved me.
