Steve's obituary

Steve Balch, beloved husband and father, died on April 3, 2021 at The Woodlands Methodist Hospital with his family by his side. He was 60 years old.

Steve grew up in Clear Lake City and spent summers surfing in Galveston. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1979, and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Sam Houston State University in 1986. Steve held a lifelong career in the petroleum industry.

In 1992 Steve met his future wife, April, a kindred spirit who shared his love of the beach, swimming, and surfing. They married six months later and moved to Spring, TX where they raised a family and created many happy memories for nearly three decades. Their daughter, Riley, is now married and advancing in a career in hotel management. Their son, Braxton, is also married and currently deployed serving the US Air Force as a firefighter medic.

“Stevo” was adored for his fun-loving spirit and goofy humor. He was passionate about Christian theology, local sports, and cherry pie. He treasured his wife and kids above all.

After a tenacious battle with cancer, Steve is survived by his wife, April Balch of Spring, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Riley and Dakota Clendenen of McKinney, TX; son and daughter-in-law Braxton and Sabina Balch of Panama City, FL; father and stepmom, Robert and Sharon Balch of Oceanside, CA; brothers Kevin Balch of Amarillo, TX and Clint Meyer of Encinitas, CA; sister, Sherri Balch Segovia of Dallas, TX; and one grandson soon to be born. Steve also had a large, loving circle of in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, neighbors, friends, and adoring pets. Steve is preceded in death by his mother and stepdad, Margie and Barry Goddard of Celina, TX.

Please join us in celebrating Steve’s life at Faithbridge Church in Klein, TX on Thursday, April 15th at 1:00pm. All friends of Steve and the Balch family are invited to attend this service in person or online. It will be livestreamed via Youtube.

Flowers are welcome, and other contributions can be made to a Celebration of Life campaign at https://gofund.me/4e5998f3 to assist Steve’s wife with funeral and other critical expenses.
