Background
The ACE Mentor Program of Chicago is honored to create a Memorial Scholarship, for ACE Mentor Alumni, in the name of esteemed architect, Steve Nilles.
An enthusiastic specialist in the technical design of high-rise buildings, Nilles spent 16 years with Chicago’s Murphy/Jahn before helping to establish Goettsch Partners as a partner and head of Middle East operations. In recognition of his accomplishments – which include projects throughout the US as well as in China, the Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE – Nilles was elected to the distinguished College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects in 2012.
Steve was a key member of the design community leadership that started the ACE Mentor Chicago chapter back in 2000. Throughout his career Steve recognized the importance of education, training, and creating opportunities for his colleagues to grow and develop as people and professionals. Steve’s influence on multiple generations is profound in reach, and a true reflection of him as a man and architect.
In the last few years of his life he discovered a love of teaching, parlaying a career-long penchant for mentoring younger coworkers into teaching graduate-level high-rise design at the University of Miami-Ohio. Contribute
