Steve's obituary

Myron Stephen Kaplan (Steve) died of a heart attack on April 14, 2018 in Lake Oswego, Oregon, where he lived. He had recently celebrated his 80th birthday at a joyous gathering of family and friends.

Steve was born in Columbus, Ohio on November 3, 1937. He received his B.A. from Ohio State University, was awarded a Woodward Wilson fellowship and went on to graduate school in the field of government at Cornell University, graduating with honors. He dedicated his life to passionately support projects to improve society and the world in which we live. He served for three years in Washington, D.C. as Legislative Assistant to Senator Gaylord Nelson. Thereafter, he held positions with the Adlai Stevenson Institute of International Affairs in Chicago and the Office of Economic Opportunity in Vermont. Subsequently, with Bernie Sanders and others, he helped found Vermont’s Liberty Union Party.

In 1985, he moved to Oregon, where he lived for the remainder of his life. He created Creativity Associates, a company that invited leading figures to share innovative thinking skills. He was also active in the New Energy Movement, seeking to authenticate and encourage alternate sources of energy. In addition, he was a spirited member of the P’nai Or congregation.

Steve is survived by his wife, Kaycheri Rappaport; his two children, Becky Kaplan Farone (and son-in-law Steve Farone) and Jeremy Kaplan; his former wife, Donna Kaplan; his sister, Ruth Kaplan Uhlmann, her husband, Craig Mathews; and many nieces and nephews.
