Steven's obituary

Steven Earl Jones was born in Richmond, California, on December 13, 1956. He was the second of four children to Wilbert James Jones and Annie Jewel Jones. He married the love of his life, Sabina Lacy, on April 15, 1978, in Oakland, California. Their union was blessed with two children: Brandy Shantel and Lamar Rashad.

Steven, affectionately known as Steve, began working for PG&E in 1977 and dedicated 44 years of service to the company. He became well known for his pleasant demeanor, strong work ethic, and unwavering willingness to help others, regardless of their age.

To many, he was lovingly called “Uncle Steve.” He had a gift for bringing people together. He enjoyed entertaining guests, playing cards, camping with family and friends, watching sports – especially the Golden State Warriors, and hitting the golf course. And if you knew him long enough, chances are you would have had the pleasure of tasting his famous BBQ, for which he was well known.

What Steve was best known for, however, was his unwavering faith and dedication to his God, Jehovah. He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on August 22, 1972. As a faithful servant, he took his ministry seriously. His diligence and self-sacrificing spirit led to his appointment as an elder in the Christian Congregation, where he provided loving guidance and support. Steve was actively involved in the public ministry, the Local Design/Construction (LDC) program, and the Special Metropolitan Witnessing Work. He remained steadfast in his faith and loyal to Jehovah until his death on March 31, 2025.

Steve is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Brandy Shantel Jones, his parents, Wilbert and Annie Jones, his Brothers, Gary Jones and Walter (Red) Ford, and his parents-in-law, F.E. and Lucy Lacy.

Left to cherish his life and beautiful memories are his devoted wife, Sabina Jones; his loving son, Lamar Rashad Jones; his brother, Donald Jones (Diana); his sister, Sherry Jones; and his nephews, Derek Jones (Ashlee), Leopold Lacy, John Walker, Jr. (Kim), Darrell Walker (Crystal), Cameron Roper, and Damon Roper. His nieces include Alise Jones, Natalya Lacy, and Donna Jubert. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Xavier Lacy and Leopold Lacy (Florence), as well as his sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Ann Walker (John), Wilma Branch, and Pamela Jones. He will be fondly remembered by a host of relatives and dear friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
