Steve's obituary

In loving memory of Robert Steven “Steve” Diehl, aged 76, of Ft. White, Florida, who passed away on May 6, 2024. Steve was born on December 5, 1947, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, to Dallas Cline and Nettie Alberta Diehl.

Growing up in Sikesville, MD, Steve graduated in 1966 from Glenelg High School before bravely joining the United States Navy. Following boot camp in Great Lakes, IL, he was stationed in San Diego, CA, Cherry Point, NC, and spent nine memorable months aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Independence in the Mediterranean Sea, as a dental technician. Honorably discharged in June 1971, Steve returned to marry his beloved Sharon Kaye Robinson August 14, 1971. They made Gainesville their home, pursuing degrees at the University of Florida, where they later raised their children, Heather Michelle and Brett. Steve earned his bachelor's degree in Sports and Recreation Management in 1977, gaining the affectionate nickname "Coach" during his college years.

His professional journey led him to a 29-year career at Busby Cabinets, where he held various roles, including salesman and estimator, until retiring in 2016. After great loss, Steve embarked on a new chapter and married Linda Faye King in Hawaii on December 31, 2011. Steve was known for his heartfelt smile, laughter, and for being the happiest person around. He had a passion for live music, especially the Grateful Dead, and his unwavering support for the Florida Gators. He took delight in boating, fishing, gardening, camping, and quality time outdoors, often accompanied by his loyal Labrador Retriever, Maui. Among his greatest pleasures were cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events, never missing an opportunity to show his pride and love.

Steve is survived by his wife, Linda King Diehl; daughter, Heather Diehl Talton (Todd); son, Brett Diehl (Elyse); stepson, Austin King (Sara); brothers, Michael Diehl (Julie), Duane Diehl (Cindy); sister, Sherri Diehl Ellis; 6 grandchildren, Caleb Talton, Caden Talton, Elijah Talton, Ever Diehl, Nevaeh King, and Olivia King, who were all the light of his life; as well as many nephews and nieces who brought him immense joy. He is preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Sterling Diehl; parents, Dallas and “Bertie” Diehl; beloved wife, Sharon Kaye Diehl; and nephews, Allen Richard Ellis III “Chip” and Matthew Kevin Diehl. May Steve's memories bring comfort and peace to all those who knew and loved him.
