Stephen's obituary

Stephen Darrell West passed away on August 9, 2024, at the age of 44 in Grandbay, Alabama. Born on August 21, 1979, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Stephen was known for his vibrant spirit and heartfelt generosity.

Stephen's passion for life was evident in everything he did. He cherished moments spent singing karaoke during car rides with his wife, Margaret, and their playful bets on who could spot and call out "moo cow" first upon seeing a cow. A devout Christian, Stephen found solace and strength in the Bible, which guided him throughout his life.

An avid music lover, Stephen enjoyed playing the bass guitar, attending concerts, and was always the life of any gathering, especially when he was grilling. His love for building things translated into numerous projects, both big and small, that not only fulfilled him but also served others, as he frequently volunteered to help the homeless.

Stephen's connection with nature was profound; he loved being outdoors, whether it was a quiet moment in the woods or a lively family gathering in his backyard. His family, including his beloved dogs, was the center of his world. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Margaret, and a loving father to his daughters, Patricia and Marissa.

He leaves behind a large family who cherished him deeply, including his sisters Connie Tanner (Denny Tanner) and Stephanie Morgan (Steven Morgan), and brother Shane Gilliland (Lisa Gilliland). He was a cherished brother-in-law to Brunese Goodyear (Donald Goodyear), Casandra Lawrence (Donnie Lawrence), and Emory Perryman Jr. Stephen will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Johnny Robert West and Janice Faye West, as well as his in-laws Emory Perryman Sr. and Sandra Kathleen Perryman.

A celebration of Stephen’s life will be held at a later date. Serenity Gardens Funeral Home in Theodore, Alabama, is assisting the family during this difficult time. Stephen’s legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will forever resonate with those who knew him.
