I’ll miss Steve and all the times he spent with me as a young man and adult. Ever since I was a young teenager I would come to the house to hang out with Mike along with several other friends. Steve would pull me aside from the group. We often talked about sports  but also shared a deep appreciation for music; in particular blues. He was the first to show me respect as a young adult and treated me like a man amongst kids. He would sneak up like he was saving me from whatever adolescent nonsense was about to occur and say “ hey Jon forget them for second, come check this out”. He would crank his stereo  system as loud as it would go and we would get lost in the sounds of Buddy Guy, Chuck Berry and B.B. King. It was like we transported to a smokey Chicago club everytime. He showed me a level of respect that has shaped me as a man and father.  I hope I can do the same for my children when they all come of age. I will miss you Steve. I’m glad I was your favorite.

Love,

 #45

"Have a look at Steve Davis, the young man out of Maryland" - From the 1977 National Championship game UGA vs Pitt. Dad played on the highest possible stage that only a select few will ever experience. He embodied greatness at the absolute top. (Maximize the video to watch)

A short clip of dad on a boat in Destin, FL - one of his favorite places. You can see dad here being himself - inquisitively looking around looking for something interesting or cool to point out to those with him. At the end he cracks a joke - "hold your stomach in" for the picture - always trying to make other's laugh. All he ever wanted to do was make those around him smile and be happy.
I have not seen Julia or Steve in many years but I was their neighbor and babysitter (Michael) in IL for many years. Steve and Julia were like family, loving, generous & kind. Steve was such a great man, an old soul if you would and Julia could light up a room with her smile. A wonderful couple and family I had the privilege to know and be part of. May his soul Rest In Peace and may you find comfort in having had so much love in your life. God Bless 🙏🏼
Dear Julia, Jo & I wish to express our sincerest sympathy over the loss of your beloved husband Steve.  He was a great guy, and we always wanted to spend a lot more time with y'all at worship, Sunday lunch out, and holidays.  He was too young to have passed on, and I'm sure there are many others that share our sentiments.  With our love we will forever remember Steve.

In our senior year, Cambridge High School had a program where you could miss school for a day to visit a college. Steve had no intention of attending the University of Maryland College Park, but he rode along with me to see the university. In those days, Route 50 had numerous traffic lights, and as we stopped for a red light at Cape St. Claire near Annapolis, with our windows down, the driver of the car next to us commented, in not a friendly way, on Steve’s hair. Steve climbed halfway out the window, it was before we wore seatbelts, and told the guy, “You have apparently never experienced an Eastern Shore whipping.” Everyone survived the encounter as the light turned green, and we were off to end up inadvertently in the middle of a College Park student demonstration. It had been an eventful day, and I have always remembered Steve’s warning to that guy.

This song is in memory of my friend whom I truly loved.  To my Brother in Christ you will be always remembered and I will see you one day.   No more sorry or pain, never crying again.
We met in the 7th grade at Cambridge Junior High 1967. During those times race relations were not that good. This was before integration of the schools. I was 1 of a few blacks that decided to go to an all white school so times were not easy for me until I met Steve. We were in the same homeroom , were to find out we had one thing in common, we were both athletes. From that point we were like 2 peas in a pod. Many times I thought to quit but it was people like Steve who told me to hang in there. I admit when I first saw him play I knew he was something special. One thing I regret was not playing with him on high school. When playing football in Junior High Steve would ask me where do I want it and I would say as high and as far as u can throw it. The first time we did this I didn't know he could throw it a country mile even though I caught it all he did was laugh. We never lost a game. I thought he was good in football but low and behold he was just as good in basketball. Again we dominated 7th grade. To be honest he was a better person than an athlete. It was because of Steve that I came back that 2nd year. Unfortunate we were not in the same homeroom but still remained close friends. This friendship to me is still in tack. It was a big shock when I heard and wished that we had stayed in touch more but like I said he was a great guy. Class of 1972 and I still say Steve was the best Quarterback that ever came out of Cambridge. I also never saw anyone run the low hurdles like Steve. I could go on but it would never end.

Had a great Thanksgiving get together with Mike and Heloisa in Savannah- they stayed in an Airbnb and we stayed in our RV across the street. We took many wonderful walks together- here we took a long walk through Bonaventure Cemetery- a big wow! Lots of ancient burials and neat story-telling. It was the last time Michael would see his dad.
