Stephen's obituary

On September 23, 2022 our beloved husband, father and grandfather Stephen Kelly Swan became our Guardian Angel at the age of 84. Steve was born and spent his early years in Ponca City, Oklahoma and earned his bachelor’s degree at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. It was there that he met the love of his life and wife of 59 years, Linda Sue McIntosh. They married in her hometown of Des Moines, Iowa, and began their life together in Houston, Texas.

Like his father, Steve’s career was in the Oil and Gas Industry. He loved spending weekends at home with the family. He was meticulous about his lawn, cars, and loved being a dad to his three girls. Upon retirement, Steve and Linda moved to Lakeway to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

As a second generation Lakeway resident, Steve spent his later years serving the Lakeway community. His proudest moment was serving the citizens of Lakeway as their two term Mayor from 2005-2009. As Mayor, he partnered with Lakeway City Council to ensure the city’s growth was carefully managed to benefit the city, including the development of the local hospital now known as Baylor Scott & White Medical Center. In March, 2021, he was honored to be awarded the “Citizen of the Year” by the Lakeway Civic Corporation.

Despite all his accomplishments, Steve’s most treasured titles were “Grandpa” and “PaPa”. He cherished time with his daughters and grandchildren. He loved animals and the family enjoyed a houseful of pets. He is most surely surrounded by them in God’s Kingdom.

Steve is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters Sallye Swan, Stacey Calabretta (Craig), and Suzy (Carolin Knoblespies) Swan; grandchildren Sam Simpson (Molly), Sydney Simpson, Lexi Calabretta and Charlie Calabretta. Steve also leaves behind a brother, William Swan and a sister, Sandra Larson. He was preceded in death by his parents Bird and Isabel Swan.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Safe in Austin Animal Rescue or Forgotten Friends Mixed Breed Rescue. The family would also like to wholeheartedly thank the staff of Arbor Terrace - Lakeway and his hospice team Sheena, Derek and Haley from Magnolia Hospice. The family will host a celebration of Steve’s life Friday October 7th at 11:00am at The Lakeway Church with a reception to follow.
