Stevie's obituary

Stephen Paul “Stevie” Short

February 19, 1971 – November 11, 2025

Stephen “Stevie” Paul Short, age 54, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a lifelong and courageous battle with congenital heart disease.

Despite being born with Tetralogy of Fallot, Stevie still had a fighter’s heart. He endured multiple heart surgeries and years of treatment with remarkable strength, faith, and resilience. Despite the challenges he faced, he never complained — greeting everyone he met with his trademark fist bump, thumbs up, and warm smile.

Stevie was a devoted sports fan and loved cheering on his favorite football team, Alabama, every season. His easygoing spirit, sense of humor, and quiet bravery touched all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving mother, Mary Brannon; brothers Jeffrey Chance, Ray Short, and Michael Short; nephews Jeffrey Chance (Shannon) and Johnathan Chance; nieces Candace Felts (Thomas), Ashley Sowell (Mike), Jennifer Chance, and Mary Ricci (Anthony); and great-nieces and great-nephews Kylee Davis, Caylin Sowell, Rylee Chance, Jason Powe, Carson Sowell, and Anthony Ricci Jr., who all adored their Uncle Stevie. He also leaves behind numerous extended family members and friends who loved him deeply.

Stevie’s viewing and funeral service will be held on November 24, 2025 at Davis-Watkins Funeral Home with graveside service to follow.

He will be remembered for his courage, his kindness, and the joy he brought to every moment of his life.
