Stephen's obituary

Stephen, 35, of Sparks, NV died suddenly on December 04, 2022.

Stephen was born on January 29, 1987 to Linda and Gary Schoen in San Francisco, CA and was raised in Santa Rosa, CA. In 2012, Stephen moved to Reno to start the Electrician apprenticeship program with IBEW 401. He thrived in this program: short intense instruction, no homework, and doing what he learned. He became a Journeyman in 2018 and worked on several major industrial and commercial projects. He was a skilled Electrician with an impressive resume; it was a perfect occupation for him.

Stephen was intelligent, kind, generous, fun, loving, and witty. He had an immense passion for football; particularly the San Francisco 49ers. He knew the game, its rules, plays, and positions. If not for a serious foot injury while playing in high school, football might have been his profession.

Stephen’s family and friends miss him more than words can say. He is survived by his parents, his beloved grandmother Marjorie Ciminelli, his loving sister Jennifer Simcox and brother-in-law Nick Simcox, his nephew Liam Simcox and niece Alexandra Simcox, uncle Mark Schoen, aunts Susan Schoen and Cheryl Throckmorton, cousins Elise Shon, Chelsea Cook and Katy Bell and numerous family friends who were essentially extended siblings. He was a magnet for kids and animals. And he had more friends that he realized.

Stephen was a good man who struggled to stay positive these last two years. In lieu of contributions, please spread word of the new #988 Suicide and Crisis hotline. Support for local mental health services and gambling addiction services would benefit those in need, even if they will not reach out themselves. And support for Unions, particularly Apprenticeship Programs, would not only help workers but our industries as well.

There will be a celebration of life in mid-January in Reno, NV and one in late January in Marin County, followed by a private scattering of ashes on his birthday in San Francisco Bay. If you cannot attend the events, please consider posting on https://everloved.com/life-of…. Details will be available on this website after finalization.
