I’ve always maintained that every person should have at least 3-6 mentors outside of their immediate family. Steve literally answered my prayers for our son, Dean Grillo, who forged a personal and working relationship with Steve that I would define as something the late Vince Lombardi called genuine Love. Only people involved in sports understand these relationships.

Tanya and family,

Our prayers are with you and your family as you mourn the loss of Steve.  We will always have very fond memories of the both of you when we first arrived in Pittsburgh.  When we saw Steve at the same hockey rinks near and far, he would always take the time to talk and reminisce.  He will be missed.

Keeping your family in our thoughts and prayers.   Steve always had a smile on his face every time we saw him in the neighborhood .  Memories of your lives together will forever remain in your hearts .

Steve was often the go-to guy when a thorny issue raised its head. He used his legal training  combined with his innate ability to see through a cloud. And he was a joy to know and to work with…….

From the first day of law school, you became my Pittsburgh brother. We had so many great times together, memories that I will always cherish. Our friendship meant the world to me with so many funny stories. Our last golf outing together where I tossed all my clubs into the lake made us laugh for weeks. I love you and will miss you, brother. — with Pete Hotis
All my love and condolences to Tanya, Arlene, Jack and Estelle. Couldn’t have had better neighbors to grow up next to.  Thanks for all the rides to school and memories.  RIP Steve.

As a true Pittsburgh guy......he deserves the highest Pittsburgh compliment......Stevie Reich was a great guy.

He will be missed many.

Such a great loss for so many. Steve was one of most genuine, sincere and caring people I ever met. If you met him once it was as if you knew him for years - he was so grounded in the things that are most important in life and he connected with so many people on a personal level. I was blessed to know him - sending our prayers and condolences to Steve's family and many friends.
I met Steve years ago at The City Club. We became friends he was always so kind and sweet. Rest in Peace my friend.
Sorry for your loss. Our family will always remember Steve as kind and a gentleman who always made us laugh. We will miss you Steve..

Reich & Terkel Family vacation

We were so incredibly sad to hear about Steve. It’s hard to believe someone so full of life could be gone so soon. We have such happy childhood memories of our families vacationing together like on our famous trip to Toronto when Uncle Sam missed the Peace Bridge several times or our trip to Jamaica at Dunn’s River Falls, or our traditional annual Labor Day picnics.

Sending you all our deepest sympathies - may his memory be a blessing.

My wife and I met Steve and Tanya at Oaklander and had good brunch. It was several years ago. Still I vividly remember having a nice and pleasant conversation with Steve. He will be missed dearly.
Really sorry to hear about your dad. He was always such a solid presence at the turkey fry — good energy, good stories, and always showing up with that bottle of whiskey. He’ll definitely be missed. It won’t be the same without him.
I am so shocked and saddened by Steve’s sudden passing. We were born within a couple of weeks of one another  and seemingly knew each other all our lives. So many good times and laughs and experiences for so many years going back to the Foxcroft/Stancey days, to playing Strat-O-Matic baseball for hours, to JCC basketball (coached by Sam) to the fulfillment of working together and having so much fun while doing it early in our careers. Steve was just the nicest, funniest, most humble guy you could ever be lucky enough to know. Always smiling, with a twinkle in his eye I recall his Mom having too, as though he had a funny thought in his head but wasn’t sure he was going to tell you. His wit and dry sense of humor were genuinely hysterical.  His loss leaves such a void, but measures what a gift he was to everyone he knew. Farewell old friend.
