Stephen's obituary

In loving memory of Stephen Lynn Garland, who passed away on June 30, 2023. After a valiant battle against Pancreatic cancer, Steve graduated from this life in his home surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was the husband of Lisa and father to Mallary, Mason, Logan, Whitley, and Bailey. He was also Pop-pop to Zoey, Evan, Parker, Jonah, Emmett, Manny, Ellie, Gideon, Rhett, Reagan, and Weslie. Steve never met a stranger and his bright countenance will be sorely missed.

Steve was born on October 18, 1960 in Pineville, Kentucky and spent most of his childhood in Lake City, Florida. After graduating from Columbia High School in 1978, he enlisted in the Navy where he served as a Corpsman. After his honorable discharge, he served a proselyting mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Salt Lake City South Mission. After his mission, he moved to Tallahassee, Florida where he attended the great Florida State University. In the spring of 1988, it was love at first sight when he met Lisa Carroll, and they wed August 6, 1988. Steve worked as a Certified Public Accountant; he loved his work and was gifted with numbers. In 2011, Steve suffered strokes during heart surgery and was forced into early retirement. He miraculously overcame the complications and recommitted his life to his family. In 2015, Lisa and Steve moved to Utah and the Garland Gang was reunited. Steve spent his time caring for his beloved dogs and playing with his adoring grandkids. College football was Steve’s great love and no one cheered louder for the Noles. His unconditional love for his family continues to buoy them up as they grieve this great loss.
