Background
My Father-in-law was diagnosed with heart failure last year and due to COVID-19 and the stay at home order, he was unable to get a primary care doctor and could not afford his medication or a place to live. He spent the last year in and out of hospitals and recuperitive care centers. Unfortunately, no matter how hard we tried and how many resources we pursued, we were still unable to get help and my Father-in-law died at our homeless camp by the railroad tracks in Compton, Ca on February 17th, 2021, National Random Act of Kindness Day, leaving behind his service dog of 10 years, a lot of unexpected bills, and two very unprepared family members, who are also experencing homelessness and an inability to pay for funeral costs.
