Stephen's obituary

Stephen Jackson, a devoted family man, musician, and lifelong adventurer, passed away on February 13, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Born in Harlem and raised in the Bronx, Steve built the foundation of his life in the neighborhood he always carried in his heart. It was there that he formed the lifelong friendships he treasured deeply—friends who became like family and remained an important part of his story through the years.

Steve had a deep love for music, especially Elvis Presley, whose songs were often the soundtrack to his happiest moments. Whether he was singing along to a favorite tune or sharing his passion for music with others, Steve found joy in every note. After moving to Leland, North Carolina with his wife, Steve got to live out his dream of being a rockstar drumming in his local band, Flashback.

He also had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel, always eager to explore new places and create lasting memories with the people he loved most. Steve was lucky enough to travel the world and to cross several bucket list items off his list like his trip to see the Pyramids.

Steve was always willing to lend a helping hand. When Steve’s children were in elementary school he became a fixture at the school, there every morning to greet each child with warmth and a smile. Steve coached their basketball and soccer teams and was undoubtedly everyone’s favorite coach. He volunteered weekly at Good Shepherd and the Wilson Theater and each holiday season for Toys for Tots.

Above all, Steve’s greatest pride and joy was his family. Steve’s love for his family never shined more than when he became a grandfather. Whether it was trying to teach them the drums or guitar, building blocks on the floor, dancing with them, or shooting hoops, there was never a limit to what he would do for his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loving husband, dedicated father and grandfather, and caring son and brother whose warmth, humor, and steady presence touched everyone who knew him.

Predeceased by his father, Harry; Steve is survived by his mother, Mary; his wife, Maryelizabeth; his daughters, Erin and Courtney; his son, Shane; and his brothers, Brian and Chris. A beloved Papa, Steve leaves behind Aiden, Caitlin, Lily, Hailey, and Finn. He also leaves behind many dear friends whose lives were made better just by knowing him.

Steve’s memory will live on in the music he loved, the stories he shared, the jokes he told, and the family he cherished so deeply. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
