Stephen was one of the most influential mentors and friends in my life.  In our work at Dow LA in the early 90s, he selflessly helped me build a technical / professional foundation and instilled in me the self-confidence to pursue my career.  



Outside of work, our team routinely got together socially - many times going to Stephen and Amy’s house in Rosedale LA.  Bonfires, concerts, BBQ’s and crawfish boils were routine at the Cross farm.  I have many fond memories of late-night conversations with Stephen by the fire - which I will always cherish.  



Stephen’s compassion for strays wasn’t limited to animals - more than once he would say “you should come with us!”  That led to me being included in Cross family vacations to El Paso and Fond de Lac - where I’m sure we drove Amy crazy at times. 

In the rare event Stephen and Amy didn’t go to their family homes for the holidays, they were always considered part of our family and we spent a couple of great holidays together.  My parents are in their late 80’s now and still have many fond memories of those days and ask about Stephen, Amy and the boys often. 

Once, Stephen and Amy came to our family camp on Old River LA, where Stephen insisted that we sail his Hobby Cat during a winter storm.  He was right, it was awesome!  



Stephen was a great man that will live on in all the lives he touched.  I am honored to be his friend and student.
