My mom found this old photo so it must have been in Fond du Lac. Maybe our wedding?

Looks like Dad's cranking up the pancakes so we must have had a sleepover at my house.

Stephen was one of the most influential mentors and friends in my life. In our work at Dow LA in the early 90s, he selflessly helped me build a technical / professional foundation and instilled in me the self-confidence to pursue my career.
Outside of work, our team routinely got together socially - many times going to Stephen and Amy’s house in Rosedale LA. Bonfires, concerts, BBQ’s and crawfish boils were routine at the Cross farm. I have many fond memories of late-night conversations with Stephen by the fire - which I will always cherish.
Stephen’s compassion for strays wasn’t limited to animals - more than once he would say “you should come with us!” That led to me being included in Cross family vacations to El Paso and Fond de Lac - where I’m sure we drove Amy crazy at times.
In the rare event Stephen and Amy didn’t go to their family homes for the holidays, they were always considered part of our family and we spent a couple of great holidays together. My parents are in their late 80’s now and still have many fond memories of those days and ask about Stephen, Amy and the boys often.
Once, Stephen and Amy came to our family camp on Old River LA, where Stephen insisted that we sail his Hobby Cat during a winter storm. He was right, it was awesome!
Stephen was a great man that will live on in all the lives he touched. I am honored to be his friend and student.

My heart hurts for all of you! I didn’t know Stephen personally but I admired Amy, Stephen and the boys as the “perfect” family! They loved soccer like we loved soccer! Hugs and prayers during this very difficult time !

I first met Stephen around 10 years ago during a project we worked together on for Dow. I immediately realized that he was an absolutely brilliant engineer and metallurgist. We worked together on many projects over the years, but it wasn’t until the past few that myself and my wife (Aimee) got to know him and his amazing wife Amy on a personal level. I will really miss our friendship and the amazing times we had together. Stephen was one of the few people in the world that I could call about extremely complex welding or metallurgical questions and he almost always knew the answer immediately. We had a really unique friendship that I will forever cherish. My condolences to Amy and the boys, I know you all have been through so much since the accident and my heart goes out to you.

I will never forget the amazing summer my family shared with Stephen back in the 90s. I never even knew I had a cousin in America. This young, handsome dude with the cool accent rolls into our lives for just a short time, but left such an impression on us all. It was one of the best summers I ever had, full of carefree fun and laughter. You will forever be in my thoughts cuz and I will miss our Face book banter where I always told you off for eating too much meat! Love you so much cuz. xxx

I have memories of many hours spent on the soccer field, from Stephen (who I more commonly refer to as “Coach” ) teaching us to kick, dribble, and juggle a soccer ball to him getting kicked out of our final soccer game as high school seniors for passionately arguing a no-call with the ref. There is no doubt that he was an ultimate competitor and instilled values of sportsmanship, integrity, and hard work in his players while teaching them a sport he loved. He impacted and helped shape a lot of boys into young men. Even though he is no longer with us the values he instilled live on and the lessons learned echo in our memories as Coach continues to impact us from the side lines of life. I know that if I am lucky enough to coach my own kids in sports, it will be Coach Cross that I am emulating. RIP Coach. Thank you for giving much of yourself to those around you.

Can't even find the words to express the sorrow at Stephen's passing. He was a great coworker and a fun person to be around.
