Stephanie Nicole Smith age 32 was welcomed into the kingdom of heaven on August 22, 2019. She is survived by her husband Michael Johnson; parents Allen and Eve Salathe Smith of Gardendale, AL; sister Shannon Smith Dyer (Matthew) of Crestview, FL; brother Scott Smith; nephew Cullen Dyer; niece Everly Dyer; two grandparents and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins and her beloved beagle Clementine "Lemon". She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Richard F. Salathe of Covington, LA; Betty Joyce Salathe of Homewood, AL and Barbara Ann Jackson of Fultondale, AL.
Stephanie was the fourth generation to be baptized at Fultondale First Baptist Church. She later became a member of Beechwood Baptist Church. At the age of 12 Stephanie traveled to Australia as a People to People Student Ambassador for Alabama. She is a 2005 graduate of Gardendale High School and then attended the University of Montevallo studying art and graphic design. She was very active in Baptist Campus Ministries serving on two mission trips to Biloxi, MS, helping families rebuild after Hurricane Katrina.
Stephanie served in the US Navy from 2009 through 2016 as a Mass Communication Specialist. She was a Petty Officer Second Class. She served on the USS George Washington in Japan for three years during the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster. She traveled throughout the south Pacific experiencing the different cultures. She then served in Coronado, CA where she met the love of her life, Mike. She continued her education in CA then Indiana where Mike is pursuing his MBA at Kelley Business School. Stephanie worked as an illustrator at Paragon Force, Inc. Stephanie enjoyed photography, baking, crafting, hiking and traveling. She will be missed by family and friends she has met all around the world. The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Helft, Pam Truitt and Chaplain Amy Balcam for the support, love and encouragement shown to Stephanie and us during her care. Stephanie was asked if there was anything she wanted and she said for people to just be kind to each other. So in lieu of flowers, just be kind. There will be a Celebration of Life on Monday 8/26/19 from 5-7 pm at Fultondale First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Fultondale, AL. A committal service with honors will start at 10:15 am on Tuesday 8/27/19 at Alabama National Cemetary in Montevallo, AL.
