Stephanie's obituary

Stephanie Robin Engram Britt, affectionately known by all as Steph or Stephy, began her life’s journey on August 6, 1960, as the beloved baby daughter of Pauline Engram and Arthur Massey. She was born in the 1st Court of the Pioneer Homes, Lived in Oakwood Plaza, AKA PM and was a proud native of Elizabeth, New Jersey. Stephanie transitioned from her earthly body on December 24, 2025. While her passing has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of her family and community, we remain committed to honoring her life in a way that reflects the grace of GOD on her life, strength, faith, and impact she had on so many.

Stephanie was educated in the Elizabeth Public School District and was a member of the first graduating class of Elizabeth High School, a distinction she carried with pride. She devoted much of her professional life to caring for others, working in the medical field as a Certified Nursing Assistant, serving as a weight management specialist at the OENJ Cherokee site in Bayonne, New Jersey, and later becoming the primary caregiver for her beloved mother, Pauline Engram. Her life’s work was rooted in compassion, service, and an unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of others.

Music was a deep passion for Stephanie, especially the legendary group The Whispers. Her favorite song, And the Beat Goes On, was not only her cell phone ringtone but also a mantra and guiding philosophy for how she lived her life. Known lovingly as the family’s “slogan queen,” Stephanie had sayings for every situation. Some of her favorites included “Wow,” “Nothing is guaranteed until it is in your hand,” “Cream always rises to the top, I know that’s right,” and “They can bend you, but they cannot break you,” in addition to so many more.

Stephanie was a devoted member of Glorious Hope Missionary Baptist Church for 30 years, where she joined in 1995 under the leadership of the late Reverend Ronald Carter and under the current leadership of Apostle Dr. Vanessa A. Nero Senior Pastor, and Elder Tamill Robinson, Pastor. She loved her church deeply and boldly shared her testimony of how God healed her body from Stage IV ovarian cancer. She was a dedicated member of the Armour Bearer Ministry, she joined because she absolutely loved her Pastor. She was always supportive of her Apostle, who she lovingly called Pastor! On Sundays, Stephanie could be found in her favorite corner row in the congregation shouting, “Thank you, Father,” with joy and conviction, she knew the importance of giving God the glory in her life. She worked with youth, loved attending church trips, and created lasting memories with her church family. Anyone who rode in the car with Steph knew about her famous game, “My Three Things,” where she required everyone to share at least three lessons learned from the church service. When unable to attend in person, she faithfully watched the live stream and followed up by calling her sisters in Christ to discuss the message. Steph loved her God, doing at home bible study on the phone with her sisters in Christ, loved her Apostle and Pastor, and loved her church with her whole heart.

Stephanie enjoyed watching her favorite television shows, Judge Mathis and Tyler Perry’s Sistas, and her favorite movie was The Five Heartbeats. During her illness, she found strength and community through the Ovarian Cancer Coalition and the Harlem Shares Support Group, connecting with other Black women battling the disease. She treasured the virtual meetings and was especially grateful for the opportunity to gather in person for lunch with the group. Stephanie loved traveling, being near the water, and most recently found peace and joy after moving to Keyport, New Jersey, where she enjoyed sitting in her car by the Raritan Bay eating lunch and enjoying the calming waves of the ocean.

Above all, Stephanie loved spending time with family and friends, bringing laughter, wisdom, and joy wherever she went. She cherished lifelong friendships and formed deep bonds throughout her community. She was always willing to help those in need, and her loving personality truly lit up every room she entered. She adored traveling with her daughter Kee Kee, looked forward to enjoying her son Qadreek’s cooking, and expressed her creativity through writing poetry, attending stage plays, and live concerts. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and family as well.

In the early morning hours on the eve of Jesus’ birthday, Wednesday, December 24, 2025, Steph’s soul peacefully ascended from earth to heaven.

Stephanie Robin Engram Britt was preceded in death by her parents and her big brother Reginald Engram. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving and devoted children, Qadreek Strickland and Wahkeeyah Johnson; her sister, Yvonne Clark; her brother, Edward Engram; her grandson, Qadreek L. Strickland; her granddaughters, Jordan Bowers Strickland and Nevaeh Stanley; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sister friends, and countless others whose lives were forever touched by her love.
