Stan's obituary

L. Stanley “Stan” Hubbard, 88, of Palm Springs, was called to his heavenly home on July 17, 2021.

He was born in Atchison, KS, on May 21, 1933, to Leslie S. Hubbard and Janie Olive (Guest) Hubbard. They preceded him in death.

Stan is survived by his sister, Beverly Jo (Hubbard) Elson, Brookfield, MO; a niece, Janie Elson (William Bennett) of Leavenworth, KS; two nephews, Greg Elson (Susan) and Brian Elson (Melissa), of Brookfield, MO; two great-nieces, Rachel (Elson) Shipers and Alyssa Elson; two great-nephews, Michael Elson and Jeremy Elson; two great-great nieces, Vivienne and Demi; and cousins, Darlene (Guest) Peterson and Martha (Guest) Drake of King City, MO; Margie (Guest) Stafford of Village of Four Seasons, MO; Bob Guest, of Independence, MO; and Amanda (Spiking) Sinclair of Danville, CA.

He attended schools in Baton Rouge, LA, before graduating from Brookfield (MO) High School. Stan enrolled at the University of Missouri-Columbia and joined the Delta Upsilon Fraternity (Life Member). Stan graduated in 1958 with a B.A. in Art History and in 1974, he earned a M.A. in Art History.

With diploma in hand and deciding that the Missouri winter’s were too cold, Stan moved to San Francisco and began a life-long career working with computers in the Department of Insurance for the State of California. He retired in 1997 and moved to Palm Springs.

Stan enjoyed his daily trips to the gym, riding his motorcycle, driving his sports car, and traveling. Two of his most memorable trips were to Europe in 1968 and Rome in 1986. He spent many hours and accumulated lots of photographs during his visits to the museums.

He loved spending time with his family and friends, either at his home in California or during his visits to Missouri. Stan usually planned his trips to coincide with MU’s Homecoming weekend in Columbia. A few of his favorite traditions were eating a delicious breakfast at Ernie’s Cafe, stopping by the Delta Upsilon house to reminisce with his old fraternity buddies, and cheering for the Tigers at the football game.

We will all miss his smile and bigger-than-life personality. He will be forever in our hearts.

There is no funeral service planned, but donations to your favorite charity in Stan’s memory would be appreciated.
