Spencer's obituary
Born June 25th 4 minutes before his twin brother Kalvin, Spencer Martinez would go on to lead a life full of beauty and pain. He fathered two amazing and gorgeous children, Danny and Kalli. They were his world and he adored them.
For all the joy he took in watching his children grow up to be outstanding human beings, there was a darkness that hung over him.
He was torn between the two sides of his heritage. In an attempt to get closer to his Mexican side, he turned to gang affiliation in hopes to become more Chicano. Sadly, this desire to navigate an identity mired in liminality opened a wound that would never heal. An unfortunate yet inevitable outcome was witnessing his best friend Fernando die in front of him, a victim of gang violence.
Like everything in his life, this tragic event would give him beauty in learning his native tongue that he in addition to his ex-wife would pass onto his children and reunite him with his other brother, Danny. It was in this reunion he found his love for San Francisco and the Bay Area, a place that was home. He made new friends there and truly was where he thrived the most.
Of course, there was a deep and pervasive sense of grief and trauma that came from watching his best friend die in his arms. He never could shake it or find his way out of the wilderness.
You can’t help those that don’t want to be helped. In spite of it all, at his core, he wanted to find peace. He just didn’t know how to find it in himself to take the steps.
He was a great father, brother, friend, and son.
He was loved. He is missed. He is at peace and no longer in pain.
Spencer leaves behind two children Daniel and Kallista, a twin brother Kalvin, an other brother, Danny, a mother Kathe, and a father Victor.
Spencer Tomas Martinez June 25th, 1987 - November 9th, 2024.
Rest in power.
