It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sophia Nicole Silva, a gentle soul treasured by many. Sophia silently slipped away on September 24, 2024, leaving a huge void in our hearts. Known for her warm smile and soft-spoken demeanor, Sophie was a beacon of kindness in every life she touched.

Born on October 27, 1991 in New Haven, CT, Sophia was no stranger to life's joys and challenges. Beginning her educational path in 1996 at East Rock Community Magnet School, Sophia overcame every obstacle she faced with strength and determination, her sweet nature being a source of inspiration for all who knew her. Attending a school that empowered her and provided opportunities to communicate effectively with those who were deaf and hard of hearing, Sophia eventually transferred to the American School for the Deaf, located in West Hartford, CT.  This school allowed Sophia to connect with students and faculty in a way that supported her passion for learning, eventually graduating in 2011 and moving to Charlotte, NC to be with her family. A love for reading and her Cape Verdean heritage, Sophia was motivated to explore the world and meet people of all cultures. Sophie was a true artist, inspiring us all to see the world through a more colorful lens. While in Charlotte, Sophia briefly attended Central Piedmont Community College to study Communication, in hopes of becoming a Sign Language Interpreter. Over the years, she explored a multitude of job opportunities from baking to hospitality, pouring herself into her work.

This heartbreaking loss reminds us of the cherished family members who preceded Sophia in death; her father, Gordon Silva, and her grandmothers, Ernestine Williams and Claudia Silva. Their reunion in Heaven is a comforting thought during this difficult time. Sophia is remembered fondly by her surviving family; her mother, Regina Silva-Jones, her sisters, Summer and Serena Silva, her step-father, Clarence Jones, her grandfather, Bernardino Silva, her niece, Andreza, and her fur- baby Lila, amongst a host of other close family members and friends. They all continue to carry her memory in their hearts, cherishing the time they were fortunate to spend with her. 

Sophia's life may seem short-lived, but the depth of her impact on those around her was immeasurable. Her sweet spirit and loving nature will be remembered forever, reminding us that it's not about how much time we have, but rather, how we use it to touch others' lives. Sophia's life was filled with love, and in turn, she enriched ours with the same. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all who loved her.
