Sonya's obituary
Sonya Michelle Lankford beloved daughter of Mary S. White and father Rodney C. Lankford was born on August 10, 1985 in Nassawadox, Virginia. She departed this life on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital.
Sonya was educated in the public schools of Accomack County. She graduated from Nandua High School in 2003. Upon graduation, she entered the workforce at Perdue Farms in Accomac. In later years, she began working with her best friend, Sharmayne Davis, at her beauty shop in Onley, Virginia.
At an early age, Sonya joined Herbert Baptist Church in Wachapreague, Virginia under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Willie Ponds. In later years, Sonya decided to join Gaskins Chapel AME Church in Savageville, Virginia under the leadership of the late Rev. H. L. James. There she served on the Sunbeam Choir, Junior Choir, and the Junior Usher Board.
One of Sonya’s favorite pastimes was watching her favorite shows and reading self help books. In her spare time, she loved to do things with her kids and go to the casino. When she would win at the casino she would call and brag about her winnings.
Those left to cherish her loving memories are her mother, Mary S. White; father Rodney C. Lankford, one son, Shawn Mapp and one daughter Sonyell Mapp; 1 sister, Shaleese Lankford; 6 brothers, Rodney Drummond, Shacorry Scarborough, Raekwon Lankford, Rhezhon Lankford, Darell Smith, and Jaquan Lankford; two nieces, Cierra Drummond and Brittany White; nephews, Lamar White, Titus Clark, Torean Clark, and a host of other relatives and friends.
