Sondra's obituary
Sondra Marie Rogers, age 84, passed away peacefully in Boise, Idaho, surrounded by those who loved her most. She leaves behind a legacy of love, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to her family.
She was born on September 26, 1940, in Shoshone, Idaho, to Elsie “Abby” and George Byard. As the elder of two daughters, she proudly embraced her role as big sister to Karen (Arkoosh). From a young age, Sondra stood out for her quick wit, dry sense of humor, and her unforgettable way of telling stories and describing the world around her.
Sondra married the love of her life, Ron Rogers, with whom she shared 57 beautiful years of marriage until his passing in 2020. Together, they built a warm and loving home in Gooding, Idaho, where they raised their three children: Shauna, Mitchell, and Joseph. As a mother, Sondra was deeply nurturing, supportive, and endlessly proud of her family.
Sondra delighted in life’s simple pleasures. In her younger years, she spent many weekends playing the organ at The Lincoln Inn—once the hoppin’ spot in Gooding—and often played music at home, filling her space with warmth and harmony. After moving to Boise, she worked at the Good Samaritan Home until retirement, where she was cherished by residents and admired by coworkers for her compassionate and calming presence.
She had a deep love for her family and friends, dogs, gardening, fashion, and decorating. Her garden always bloomed with vibrant color, and her home reflected her thoughtful style and welcoming spirit. She loved sharing that beauty and warmly inviting friends and family inside. She especially looked forward to summer barbecues—where her famous macaroni salad was always a hit with the family. Sondra was also a devoted fan of westerns, Boise State football games, and shopping trips—especially for jewelry, clothes, and home décor.
Her dry sense of humor and sharp eye for life’s little quirks made her stories unforgettable. Whether she was reminiscing about family memories, offering a witty observation, or recounting an ordinary moment with extraordinary flair, she had a way of making people laugh—often when they least expected it.
Nothing brought her more joy than being “Grandma.” She treasured every moment with her grandchildren: Brian (Heather), Chad (Jeramie), Kylie (Mike), Patrick (Mandy), Zachary, Kelsie, and Hunter. That joy only multiplied with the arrival of her great-grandchildren: Margaux, Oliver, Ryder, Braylee, Pacey, Brooks, and Winnie.
Sondra’s warmth, charm, and the unmistakable light she brought into every room will be remembered and missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ron; her parents, Abby and George; and her daughter-in-law, Kerri Rogers.
She is survived by her children: Shauna (Klete) Rogers Howard, Mitchell (Lonnie) Rogers, and Joseph (Tanya) Rogers; her grandchildren: Brian (Heather), Chad (Jeramie), Kylie (Mike), Patrick (Mandy), Zachary, Kelsie, and Hunter; her great-grandchildren: Margaux, Oliver, Ryder, Braylee, Pacey, Brooks, and Winnie; and her sister, Karen (Arkoosh); as well as many extended family members and dear friends who loved her deeply.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
