Obituary
Socorro was born on March 5, 1951, in Santiago, D.R., and raised in Santo Domingo, D.R. She came to New York City in 1969 to begin a new chapter and provide for her family. Shortly after arriving, she worked in a button factory, saving to bring her mother and brother to the United States, reflecting her selflessness and dedication.
In 1985, Socorro married Juan Bautista Rivera and devoted herself to raising their four daughters. As a stay-at-home mother, she poured her heart into her children, teaching them faith, discipline, and unconditional love. Her home was guided by prayer, church, and the steady presence of a mother who gave endlessly of herself.
Socorro was preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe Antonia Luna and Pedro Augustin Bruno, and her beloved husband, Juan Bautista Rivera.
She is survived by her daughters, Leticia Blanchard, Guadalupe Rivera, Ana Rivera, and Iris Rivera; her grandchildren, Felicia Figueroa, Justin Rodriguez, Odalyz Rivera, Alexis Blanchard, Alison Rivera, Jay Lynn Lopez, Elijah Rodriguez, John Baez, Analia Rivera, and Emmanuel Watson; her great-grandchildren, Mayson Louis, Peace Cobb, Ason Blanchard, and Julian M. Rodriguez; and her brother, Jose Luna.
A devout and longtime member of the Pentecostal church La Fe, Socorro’s faith was the foundation of her life. She dedicated herself to taking her daughters and grandchildren to church, instilling in them a love for God and a strong spiritual foundation. Socorro loved listening to Christian music, cooking for her family, and in her later years found joy in watching church sermons and lectures on YouTube, which brought her comfort and spiritual fulfillment.
Socorro will be remembered for her strength, deep faith, and unconditional love. Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who carry forward her values, faith, and the love she gave so freely.
