Sister Pearl's obituary

On July 17, 2023,  Sister Pearl Revels-Bey made her earthly transition and passed away. Sister Pearl was born on September 14, 1941, and lived a life full of faith, wisdom, love, and devotion to her family and community. She was born in Mobile, Alabama to Marion and Mattie Charleston.  She grew up and was the last living member of her three brothers Melvin Kelly, Leon, Charles, and Aubrey. After moving to NY she began  working for and  retired from the NY Telephone company. During that time she met her best friend Ms. Carrie Walls who has been her friend until today.

Sister Pearl is survived by her dedicated husband, Brother Napoleon Revels-Bey, whom she was united in holy matrimony with in 1971. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Bishop Francis Revels-Bey and beloved daughters, Carmen Mitchell-Bey and Amirah Raveneau-Bey. Her son- in- laws, Aziz Mitchell-Bey and Darren Raveneau.  Her rich legacy will continue to bloom through the lives of her grandchildren, Zafir W. Mitchell-Bey, Zafirah A. Hartshorn, Maya N. Raveneau-Bey and Joshua M. Raveneau-Bey. She also has 10 great-grandchildren, cousins Geneva, Mamie, Jackie and nieces Cathy, Myra, Janessa and Rachel. She has a host of extended family and many others she warmly embraced as part of her extended family.

Sister Pearl had a wonderful taste in music. She enjoyed going to her husband's band's performances and you would find her in the audience cheering him on. She could be found listening and humming to R&B classics by artists such as Sam Cooke, Patti Labelle, and Gladys Knight and the Pips. She found joy in the simple things like a game of Uno with her family, tending her garden, and cooking for her loved ones. Sister Pearl enjoyed making her famous potato salad, apple cake, marble cake and ginger lemonade. She showed love through her food and sharing her wisdom to those who had an open heart.

A woman of deep faith and dedication, Sister Pearl was a Divine Minister and Sheik. She served in various roles within the Moorish Science Temple of America's Temple No. #21 in Brooklyn, NY, including serving as Chairman of the Sisters Auxiliary and becoming Secretary Emeritus. Sister Pearl was an avid reader and could be found reading some of the Divine Instructions of the Holy Koran of the Moorish Science Temple of America. She was a pillar of her community, often found offering words of wisdom to her children, friends and anyone who sought her counsel.

No words can adequately capture the essence of Sister Pearl's personality as she embodied warmth, wisdom, and love. She firmly believed that love is the savior of the world. Her greatest achievement was the vivid, loving memories she left behind as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to many.

In remembrance of Sister Pearl Revels-Bey, a memorial celebration service will be held on August 5, 2023, at 349 Bainbridge St. in Brooklyn, NY. The service will begin at 2:00 PM and the reception will follow at 4:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Sister Pearl's memory may contribute and make a donation to help the family transition, and support a collective gift that will go to her Temple and a charity that she was a member of. Donations can be sent to: https://everloved.com/life-of….
