Sigismund's obituary

Sigismund Richardson—a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and pillar of the Ghanaian community—passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on December 14, 1948, in Accra, Ghana, he was the son of the late Samuel and Faustina (Sackey) Richardson.

Sigismund was a kind-hearted, gentle-spirited, and devoted family man who led by quiet example. From humble beginnings, he worked tirelessly to build a life he had once only imagined. After immigrating to the United States in 1974, he earned his associate degree from Quinsigamond Community College and went on to build a long and successful career in the computer science industry. Following decades of dedicated work, he retired to spend more time with his beloved wife and to enjoy traveling the world.

He carried a generous heart, a steady presence, and a warmth that brought comfort to those around him. Above all, he cherished his family and friends. As a father, he offered unwavering guidance, love, and support—strengths that remained constant throughout his life. He instilled in his children and extended family the values of respect, perseverance, and resilience, a legacy that will endure through generations.

Sigismund had a lifelong passion for sports. He rarely missed an opportunity to watch a game, celebrate a victory, or debate a memorable play. His enthusiasm was infectious, and the time spent cheering alongside him created cherished memories.

He also possessed a deep appreciation for architecture. He found beauty in craftsmanship, creativity in design, and inspiration in the structures around him. This passion led him to design and build multiple homes in his beloved hometown of Accra, Ghana.

Sigismund Ansah Richardson (Paa Richie) entered Mfantsipim School in 1963 as part of the 105th cohort and quickly became known for his humility, kindness, and calm nature. Though big in stature, he was gentle and formed a strong brotherhood with classmates, especially those from Accra and the Kaneshie Estates. Even after many friends dispersed abroad, their bond endured, and they reunited often in Ghana to reminisce about school days and shared adventures. His passing leaves a deep void among his brothers, who cherish his memory and wish him peaceful rest.

His connection to his Ghanaian heritage remained central throughout his life. As a founding member of the Gadangbe Club of New England and an active participant in the Greater Accra Social Club, he found fellowship, celebrated tradition, and contributed to a community that became his extended family. Through these organizations, he forged lasting friendships, offered support to others, and proudly celebrated the richness of his culture.

Sigismund’s beloved wife, Sharon D. (Hawkins) Richardson, passed away on January 7, 2024. He is survived by four sons: Samuel Richardson and his wife Tanya of Auburn, MA; Desmond Richardson and his wife Christie of Rochdale, MA; Cedric Richardson and his fiancée Deandra Coleman of Spencer, MA; Terrence Richardson his wife Sarah of Auburn, MA., and his niece Abigail Baez of Charlton, MA. He also leaves behind seven cherished siblings: six sisters, Doris Tallon of England, Christie Naa -Ansah Richardson of Ghana, Gina Richardson of Ghana, Theresa Ocran of Ghana, Lena Mante of Ghana, and Mabel Amar-Atsen of Maryland, one brother, Albert Richardson of England, nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews across several countries.
