Shirley's obituary

Shirley E. Randle, 92 years of age, passed away on October 9, 2021, after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of Jack Randle (deceased), daughter of Evelyn and Raymond Dawson, sister of Joyce Helger, Carolyn Moore, Wilma Chace,(deceased), and brother of Robert Chace.  She was cousin to Linda Stafford, Betty Hill, Richard Chace, and her birth father was William P. Chace.

Shirley was born in Somerset RI, and grew up in Newport.  Folks in town knew her outgoing personality as well as admiring her for her appearance, which ultimately led her to being voted Miss Newport.   The camera loved her and she was frequently photographed, her image gracing numerous publications.  Her marriage to navy Commander Jack Randle lasted sixty years and they enjoyed traveling the globe.  Shirley held a number of interesting jobs at some the bases including, nurse's aide, librarian, and swimming instructor.

When Jack retired from the navy, the continued to travel and finally wound up on the west coast of the USA, living in Washington, Oregon, and finally settling in California.

After five decades, they finally realized their wish of building their "dream house" which was completed in 2012.

Shirley had a wild and wonderful sense of humor and would often refer to herself as "nasty"...or "cheap" - as she was a devout frequenter of thrift shops".  In fact, she was incredibly strong-willed...but thrifty.  She was the best-dressed senior in the community - all from thrift shops.
