Grandma’s Little Last Miracle - Restore Safe Haven (Shirley Penley: August 12, 1952 - March 12, 2023)

I am asking for help for my friends’ grandmas “Safe Haven” and for her to be at peace. We have given everything that we had to offer. Her daughter, (my friends’ mom) did her best given the circumstances but we’ve been unable to restore the property.

The family has fallen on hard times, and life has been extremely rough and challenging more so than anyone deserves. The grandmother had a fall and broke her femur. We drove down to North Carolina from New Jersey to help. She went into the hospital, underwent surgery to repair the leg… and a week later, the grandma’s son-in-common-law (my friend’s father) went into the hospital ICU and had to undergo surgery as well. The grandmother passed away on March 12, 2023. Her body was not strong enough to fight. The final expenses of grandma are overbearing. My friend’s father was released from the hospital March 12, 2023 and then readmitted from more complications on March 16, 2023 and has a long road to recovery. The mother has been working around the clock from getting up at 4:30am until 6:00 pm daily trying to make ends meet. All of this is happening in real time and time is not on their side. Luckily, medical insurance is helping the cost of the hospital stays, but everything else is overbearing.

The grandma has been taken care of for 20+ years by her partner, Ronnie. After his passing last year, her roof caved in and she had no choice but to take refuge in her daughters home, which was not designed for an elderly woman. The plans for the renovations on grandmas home started around June 2022, during which time the mother and father had major water issues with the bathroom plumbing, and the roof leaking. Which brings me to why the family needs help, the current home is not suitable, and the grandma’s home and property or all that remains and it is currently uninhabitable.

We have been in North Carolina for the past month staying at numerous places, trying to pull everything together… and the expenses are being driven upwards. This past trip is approximately the 6th trip staying multiple weeks at a time, traveling between New Jersey and North Carolina trying to help the grandma and parents. Between going back-and-forth to the hospital for the grandmother and father, and trying to fix the grandma’s house as well as fix the fathers house… it has been very stressful.

So much so that during the process I was in a car accident with my pick up truck. My truck rolled over in a creek bed. The car insurance totaled the truck because the overhead airbags deployed. My truck was my livelihood and a major tool in pulling together these projects.

I’m stretched out to my max, I have given it my all, and will continue to until it’s completed, I just need help. I saw a need and tried to fill it, not knowing what I was getting myself into, but was willing to give it all I had and I did just that!

Please help with the funeral arrangement cost burden and restoring the grandmothers once home and safe haven for the future generations to come. May there always be someone to lend a helping hand. Through your donations, anything is possible and 100% of all donations will aid in the finalization of grandma‘s little last miracle.
