Shirley's obituary
Shirley Elizabeth Olt
January 29, 1961 - February 14, 2023
Shirley Elizabeth Olt (Bailey), 62, of Elkton, Maryland, passed away February 14, 2023, at home, surrounded by her family, after a long battle with cancer.
Shirley was a beloved wife, sister, mom, mom-mom, and friend. Though taken too soon, Shirley was able to fit a lot of love and laughter into her life. During her journey, she wore many hats: crafter extraordinaire, home health aide, school bus driver, dental assistant, restaurant manager, single mom, school project assistant, basketball practice chauffeur, on-call babysitter, and best friend to her husband, Chris.
The baby of her own family, a wild child growing up in the 70s, who tended toward silly over serious. Shirley loved to laugh; she would be the loudest at comedy shows, sitcoms, and of course, her own jokes, even with a bit of snort. A kid, at heart, she adored Disney movies and characters; Shirley Temple, Raggedy Ann and Andy, and never missed an opportunity to decorate for all holidays. She also enjoyed a good romance novel, puzzles and board games, and had a passion for music; everything from oldies to country with a special love for Patsy Cline. Shirley loved her grandchildren with her whole heart and would be the loudest grandma on the sidelines of every football and baseball game. Her love for animals would rival that of Dr. Dolittle, and she amassed quite the menagerie over the years of dogs, cats, chickens, goats, rabbits, guinea pigs, etc. Her dogs meant the world to her, and she would be hard pressed to get through a conversation that didn’t involve photos or mention of Worm Juice, Corky, Chevy, Coco, or any one of her cherished pets. When not cheering on her grandkids, taking care of her animals, or crafting; she enjoyed baking, planting flowers, hanging out by the bonfire, and spending time with friends who she considered family. We will never forget her famous deviled eggs, loved by all, requested for every occasion by her granddaughters Ashlynn and Paige.
She is survived by: her husband, Chris Olt; her daughters: Tina Goudeaux (husband Matt) and Barb Bunney (husband Les); five grandchildren: Andrew Goudeaux, Austin Goudeaux, Ashlynn Goudeaux, Paige Bunney, and Brandon Bunney; three sisters: Helena Mullins, Nora Simpson (husband Ed), and Barb Young; and her brother, Dennis Bailey (wife Nancy); and in-laws: Walter and Ginger Olt, as well as beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She is predeceased by her mom, Helen Bailey; her father, Charles Bailey; her brothers, Marty Bailey and Charles Bailey, Jr.
Shirley’s smile will be missed but not forgotten. We will remember Shirley for her loving nature, infectious laughter, and her occasional, endearing stubbornness.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life, which will be held at The Sugarhouse at Elk Forge Inn, 807 Elk Mills Road | Elkton, MD 21921 on Saturday, March 4 at 2pm.
