Shirley's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mrs. Shirley McCollom on December 11, 2025. Born on November 16, 1935, Shirley lived an abundant life characterized by her loving, loyal, and steadfast nature.
As a die-hard supporter of her family, Shirley's proudest accomplishment was indeed her larger-than-life family. She leaves behind a host of cherished loved ones, including her daughter, Dawn McCollom , stepdaughters Trina Gonzalez and Carol Lorenz, son-in-law Gerald Schaffer, and an array of dutiful daughters-in-law like April Houston, Sheila Baker, and Teresa Christopher.
As a beloved matriarch, Shirley's legacy continues to thrive through her numerous grandchildren; Brie Hearn, Samantha Baker, Chelsey Hall, Kristin Baker, Lauren Wood, Lindsey Baker, Breanna Christopher, Alyssa Baker, Janell Flowers, Teena Holman, Jennifer Teague, Christy Bass, Linda Bass, Natalie Sanborn, Tiffany Abbott, Kitura Knoblock, and Taylor Jones. Her grandsons, from Kenny Badgett, Jon Baker, Jesse Weatherly, Robby McCollom, Michael Vincent, Anthony Vincent, Jaggar McCollom to Cameron Shankle, will remember their grandmother's toughness and never-give-up spirit, enriching their lives.
She was preceded in death by her ever-loving mother, Marie Freeland, cherished husband, James McCollom, sons Danny, James, and Johnny Baker, stepsons Bud and Mack McCollom, stepdaughter Gwen Morrison, and dear granddaughters, Jamie Baker and Elysha Owens.
Shirley will always be remembered for her infinite fondness for NCIS, any movie with John Wayne, playing Lite Brite, and her love for the color blue. Her favorite cuisine was Mexican food, and anyone who ever tasted her versions of these dishes can attest to the love she poured into them.
In Shirley's life, the most valuable lesson she imparted was the importance of resilience and the power of perseverance. Her legacy will be a testament to the bond of family unity and the relentless battle against all odds, a virtue she held dear. An exceptional woman, her amazing legacy of great and great-great-grandchildren will forever be a testament to her love and dedication to her family.
A celebrate her life for Shirley will be held on December 27, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Pleasant Oaks Baptist Church, Later the same day, we will have a reception at 8500 Arturo at 3pm. We invite everyone whose lives Shirley touched to join us on this day to reminisce, grieve, support each other and, of course, just chat about Shirley.
