Shirley's obituary
passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at her home in
Los Osos, Ca surrounded by her family.
Shirley was born June 28, 1930 to
Percy and Susan Nash in Ontario Canada.
Shirley married the love of her life Frank Matthews on December 30, 1954.
They met each other while Shirley was doing a summer nursing internship at
St. Joseph hospital in Los Angeles California to become a R.N.
When she returned home to Canada Frank followed her and they married and began raising their large family where Shirley kept herself busy raising their eight Children. Her surviving children remember her as a patient mother
who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
In 1965 Shirley and Frank moved to California by train with their brood of eight children for Frank to continue his acting career in Hollywood and where Shirley started to work as a registered nurse at
Northridge Hospital in San Fernando Valley.
Not only was Shirley a devoted wife and mother but she also worked in service as a registered nurse for 49 years (1953-2002), eventually retiring from Marian Hospital at the age of 72.
Shirley enjoyed an active social life, Frank and her loved to square dance. After Frank died in 1988 Shirley continued to be of service by joining and devoting her life to the Secular Franciscan‘s Catholic order.
Shirley was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary's catholic church of Santa Maria and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton church in Los Osos as well being a Franciscan Eucharistic minister.
She also fed the poor through her local community food bank for five years.
She is dearly missed by her loved ones who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator.
Shirley is survived by her children and their spouses
Michael, Therese and Walt, Julianne, Donna , Susan, Joseph, Andrew and Tina, Shawn and 25 grandchildren 24 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband
Frank Matthews her parents and her sister Joy Laplante.
Shirley left her mark on this world. Her legacy will live on forever. Such a precious soul that lived such an honest life she will forever have an imprint on all of our hearts.
