Shirley's obituary
Shirley Ann (Garey) Louther, 89, of Euless, Texas, was called home to be with her Lord on June 16, 2025. Born on June 6, 1936, in Raymondville, Texas, to Christine Mae (Lynn) Garey and Cecil Lewis Garey, Shirley's life was a testament to unwavering faith, remarkable strength, and boundless love for her family and others.
Shirley's journey began with a deep spiritual commitment, accepting Jesus Christ into her life in 1944 at Donna First Baptist Church in Hidalgo, Texas. This faith became the bedrock of her life, shaping her into the devoted matriarch she was known to be, always ready to share the love and warmth of Jesus Christ with anyone she met, opening her arms wide in care and compassion.
On August 18, 1957, in Donna, Texas, Shirley married the love of her life, James Fredrick Louther, and together they built a life centered on faith and family. She was a loving wife and mother, dedicated to guiding and nurturing her five children: Jimmy Louther (Tammy), Cheryl White (Gregg), Karl Louther (Sandra), Chris Louther (Annastasia), and Sarah Caten (Craig). Her role as grandmother brought immense joy, and her wisdom and guidance will continue to inspire her grandchildren: Brittany White, Gregg White, Nathaniel Louther (Kate), Autumn Louther, Winter Louther, Savannah Caten, Israel Louther, and C.J. Caten, and great-grandchildren: Ciera White, Emilee White, and D.J. Garcia.
Shirley's compassion extended beyond her family, leading her to a fulfilling career as a nurse, where she helped and guided countless individuals. A proud alumna of Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, she graduated with a remarkable 4.0 GPA, a testament to her dedication and excellence. She also actively served her church community, volunteering her time and talents, including playing the piano in the church choir. As a faithful member of South Euless Baptist Church, Shirley exemplified her deep spiritual convictions through acts of support and kindness for all around her.
In her leisure, Shirley cherished time spent gardening and passionately cheering on her favorite football teams, but her greatest joy was always found in the embrace of her loved ones. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Fred, her parents, her brother C.L. Garey, and her cherished granddaughter, Madison Caten, who joyfully welcomed her into the kingdom of Heaven and God's loving embrace.
To remember Shirley is to be reminded of her favorite Scripture, Romans 8:28: “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." Shirley lived this verse as a good and faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. A private celebration of Shirley’s life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025. Shirley's memory will be forever cherished, a guiding light of faith, love, and unwavering devotion, reminding all who knew her of a life beautifully lived.
