Shirley's obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Shirley Nelson, who left us on February 2, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on March 24, 1938, Shirley lived a life marked by warmth, genuine care, and love for those around her.

Predeceased by her husbands, Larry Nelson in 2018 and Rex Tindall in 1995, Shirley was also the youngest of 13 children, and was preceded in death by all 12 of her older siblings.  Shirley is survived by her son, Tim Trae Tindall,  grandson Joseph Tindall, granddaughter Lexi Tindall, and adult step-children: Brit, Kimberly, and Barry Nelson, and a host of wonderful in-laws and extended family members. Her love and memories will inspire our lives forever moving forward.

A graduate from Hammond, LA in 1955, Shirley also redefined her life in her wedding dates on New Years Eve 1968 to Rex,  and years later her marriage on pre-Thanksgiving weekend 1998 to Larry. She was a woman of many interests which reflected in her favorites - a diet coke, music by the Bee Gees, Rod Stewart, and Willie Nelson.  Shirley also loved good murder mysteries, and TV shows like The Mentalist, The Closer, NCIS, and CSI. Her penchant for performances was captured best by The Sound of Music and Showboat, as well as movies such as Pretty Woman and The Lion King. Her leisure time was marked by cooking, hosting family, and caring for her puppies: Bandit Nelson, Willie Nelson, and most recently Louie Nelson. Shirley found her solace in her favorite vacation spot, Hawaii, and many trips throughout the years to visit with family in Mississippi and Louisiana.  She was a frequent guest at her favorite restaurants over the years, including Cheddar's, Lupe Tortilla, and her all-time favorite of Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen.

Described best as loving, warm, caring, and genuine, Shirley was a pillar of strength and support for anyone that needed her. She was a faithful friend, mother, grandmother, sister, encourager, and confidant. Always there to reassure, "Don't sweat the small stuff," Shirley would lend a helping hand to friends, family, or even strangers, exemplifying her generous spirit and kind heart.  Shirley attended First Baptist Bryan, Kingsland Baptist of Katy, and a host of other churches and fellowships throughout her years, as Shirley gladly practiced the love of Jesus in her heart.

Shirley's legacy of perpetual kindness, unwavering generosity, and boundless love will continue to resonate with all of us. She has left a void that cannot be filled.  As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we remember her not with sadness, but with gratitude for the life she led and the love she shared.

A Celebration of Life for Shirley will be held on February 17, 2024, at 12:30 PM at Katy Community Fellowship: 24102 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, TX 77494

A reception with food and refreshments will follow immediately afterward.  You are welcome to bring a dish or side to contribute.

Shirley's never-ending love will be greatly missed, but her lessons and memories will forever be a part of us.
