Shirley's obituary

Shirley L Hake, age 76 of Jacksonville Beach, Florida (formerly Windsor, Pennsylvania) passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 9, 2025.

Born on September 27, 1948, Shirley was the only child of Kenneth & Buelah (Fauth) Crumbling of East Prospect, Pennsylvania. Shirely was a graduate of the class of 1966 Eastern York High School and upon her high school graduation she attended Empire Beauty School, and later went on to open her own salon in East Prospect.

Shirley spent many years “behind the chair” making people feel beautiful, and even when her own shop became to overwhelming for her, she went on the become the top stylist at J.C. Penney until all the years on her feet took their toll and she was forced to hang up her styling cape. She then became a technician for Red Lion Chiropractic where she continued to serve and help people feel the best they could, just in a different manner. She ended her working years at Bon-Ton at the Galleria mall where she worked in the Home and Jewelry Department. No matter where she went, she always ran into someone she knew. Shirely was an active member of Zion U.M. church in East Prospect up until her relocation to Florida. She also was an active adult volunteer through most of the 1990’s with Bethel #1 York, Job’s Daughters, in support of her daughter, Katrina.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Katrina Halk (David), of Mechanicsburg, PA, her sister-in-law, Jeanie Hake, of Jacksonville, FL, her niece, Christine Owen (Tom), also of Jacksonville, and her two “grandchildren” Andrew and Mikayla Owen, who referred to her as “Grandma Kitty”. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ernie Hake, Jr.

Shirley had an amazing gift of befriending just about everyone she met. She had warm open heart and loved just about every animal on this planet (unless it was a reptile or a rodent!). Her love of cats, turned her into a mini-shelter in her later years with her bringing in a pregnant stray and keeping all the kittens, and then finding 2 more during a snow storm just one year later, bringing her total to 6! She loved all things Elvis and anything purple and was always the epitome of style. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but I know she is happy to be with her Lord and Savior and reunited with her husband Ernie.

A celebration of life service will be held on July 19th at 2:00 p.m. at the York Masonic Center at 400 Masonic Drive, York, PA.
