Born on November 22, 1925, Shirley lived a full and vibrant life defined by her intellect, warmth, and unwavering dedication to her family. She pursued her passion for helping others through her education at Hunter College and later earned her master’s degree from Columbia University, building a meaningful career as a social worker. Her work touched countless lives, reflecting her deep empathy, sharp insight, and genuine care for people.
Shirley was married to her beloved husband, Harry Firestein, with whom she built a strong and loving family until his passing. Later in life, she shared many happy years with her longtime partner, Harold Nitowsky.
She was the proud mother of four children—David, Netsy, Marcia, and Ben—and her legacy continues through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were a constant source of pride and joy.
Shirley was truly a force to be reckoned with. She possessed a remarkable presence—strong, engaging, and endlessly curious.
