Shirley's obituary
Shirley Ann Durrence Deel
August 8, 1937 – August 6, 2025
Shirley Ann Durrence Deel, 87, passed away peacefully and entered heaven on August 6, 2025. Shirley was married to Lertie Eugene Deel (deceased) for 60 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Born on August 8, 1937, in Glennville, Georgia, to the late Ellen Askew and Lon Durrence. She was devoted to her family and lived a full life serving the Lord.
Shirley was a wonderful homemaker who took pride in caring for her husband and children. Later in life, she worked at Roses and K-Mart stores in the fabric department. She had a talent for sewing and crochet, which she greatly enjoyed. She crocheted many blankets for her children and grandchildren. Her family was blessed with her weekly homemade meals and over the years she continued to prepare favorite dishes for holiday family gatherings. She was “Nana” to her grandchildren and always there to help when she was needed. She always remembered birthdays and anniversaries in her family. She was active in church, volunteering along with her husband to do cleaning; she also made cakes for fundraisers held in the fellowship hall. She loved each church she attended over the years and her church family.
During the last months of her life, she had family, friends, and neighbors visit her at home and in the hospital. They came by to help her and visit on a regular basis. She was very appreciative of the love and support she received from each of them.
Shirley’s greatest joy was her family.
