Shiao-Ping's obituary
Shiao-Ping Lee Wei, a resident of Ann Arbor, MI passed away on October 24, 2023 at age 74, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Beijing, China in 1948, Shiao-Ping grew up in Taipei, Taiwan, with her loving parents, Sheng-Lung Lee and Shu-Jen Ho, and her three older sisters and one younger brother, Agnes Lee Chan, Lucia Ung, Shiao-Moon Wen, and Chung Lee.
After majoring in Agriculture Chemistry at the National Taiwan University, Shiao-Ping moved to the United States to study at Mount Holyoke College, where she received a Master’s in Chemistry in 1974, the same year that she married Daniel Wei. After a short stint in the chemistry field, where she decided that she did not care for testing on mice, she and her husband moved to Ann Arbor, MI, where she received a Master’s in Computer and Communication from the University of Michigan in 1982.
For much of the remainder of her life she resided in Ann Arbor, MI, creating a sense of home for her family and many others. She was highly involved in the Ann Arbor Chinese School (AACCOM) community, including a stint as the principal to help spread learning of the language as well as culture. Shiao-ping also practiced Yan Xin Qi Gong. Her open and generous heart spoke to her spiritual nature, as a Catholic, with an interest in Buddhism as well as the richness of Chinese folklore. An intrepid and hardworking spirit, she moved through life with deep courage and admirable pragmatism. However, what is remembered most is the ease and brightness of her smiles and laughs, her curiosity for the world, and the generosity of her love. She will be deeply missed.
Shiao-Ping is survived by her husband, Daniel Chi-Pang Wei, and her two daughters, Connie Wen-Ann Wei and Joy Wen-Shin Wei. We will look for you in long walks in the forest, in all of our gardening experiments, and in the stars where you came from.
