Sherrye's obituary

Sherrye Manning Teague passed away peacefully on the morning of August 6, 2025 following a months-long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born on July 17, 1958, Sherrye was the second child of William Wade (Bill) and Bette Jo (Reding) Manning. She grew up in Madison, Tennessee alongside her older brother Dave. During their teenage years, Sherrye and Dave showed Tennessee Walking Horses their family raised. (Rumor has it they also fought and bickered like, well, siblings).

Sherrye attended Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville for her undergraduate degree and received her Master’s in Education from Vanderbilt University. While in college, she was an active member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority where she formed friendships that she fostered and maintained her entire life. Sherrye spent the first years of her professional career as an elementary school teacher in the Nashville area before becoming a guidance counselor. She spent four decades in education before retiring in 2023.

While she was a phenomenal educator who bettered the lives of countless students, the light of Sherrye’s life was her son, Christopher. The dynamic duo had a closeness and deep affection for one another. Christopher was the one who served as Sherrye’s caregiver in her final months and was by her side when she passed.

Sherrye also absolutely doted on her grandchildren, Asher and Norah. Time with Grammie, as they called her, was always packed full of fun. Trips to Dollywood, Preds games, and frequent sleepovers were all a regular part of their routine, and you’d find Sherrye in the audience of every recital, performance, and game.

When she wasn’t excelling as an educator, a mom, or a grandmother, Sherrye could be found in the company of her many, many friends. Girls trips, concerts, sporting events—Sherrye enjoyed them all with a sense of energy, joy, and delight. As her health declined, these same friends stepped up with visits, meals, and so many wonderful stories about a life well-lived and well-loved.

Sherrye is survived by her brother David (Betsy), son Christopher (Stephanie), grandchildren Asher and Norah, nephew Brian (Cassidy), niece Jennifer (Jon), and great-nephews and nieces Luke, Lucy, London, Nathan, Finn, Ellie, and Henry. She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Bill and Bette Jo.

Sherrye's memorial service will be held at Fellowship Bible Church (4236 Veterans Parkway Murfreesboro, TN 37128) on Saturday, August 16, 2025. Visitation will begin at 11:00am followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00pm.

Being the adventurer and lover of life that she was, we invite you to wear what you feel represents Sherrye as part of your life (a shirt from a girls trip, Vanderbilt Commodores/Nashville Predators gear, or even just bright colors). In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to buy the ticket, take the trip, or spoil someone you love. It’s what Sherrye would do.
