Shelley's obituary
Shelley Louise Garrison, née Kahle, (stage name Shelley Quayle), passed away on December 28, 2025, due to health complications following a fall. Born February 13, 1950, to Douglas Frederick and Elsie Elizabeth Kahle, she was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and friend. She is survived by her husband, Paul Garrison, ex-husband John Quayle, children John and Mary Quayle, sister Nina Kahle, and niece Amoreena Hathaway. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
Shelley was a unique and well-loved personality and creative artist. She developed and applied her abundant artistic gifts in all areas of her life. In her early years as a vocalist, she impressed audiences with her rich, strong voice, performing (as Shelley Quayle) in a folk-oriented duo partnering with friend Eric Anderson (“Eric and Shelley”), leading to releasing their album “Eric and Shelley Aren’t Married” in 1971. Shelley later sang in her own local band, “Stryder”, expanding her talents, performing pop, rock and other standards in area venues, becoming well sought after. In later life, Shelley would reunite with friend Eric Anderson and add Dave Best to form the trio One Flight Up. For several more years, they performed occasional, mainly local, concerts; though, in 1990, they were selected to perform before the president and honorees at the “Points of Light” dinner in Washington DC. No small compliment. In the meantime, Shelley had been pursuing an underlying career in custom framing for some years, where her impeccable artistic eye helped enhance and create many a masterpiece and, again, developed a following.
On top of it all, she was a beautiful soul, a really cool person, and a lot of fun to be with! She will be truly missed.
A memorial celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
