Wanda's obituary

Shelia Wandaleen Welsh, affectionately known to friends and family as Wanda, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, in Austin, Texas, at the age of 75. Born on March 14, 1950, in Gadsden, Alabama, Wanda was a beacon of joy and resilience throughout her life, touching the hearts of those around her with her loving, generous, and selfless nature.

Wanda's early years were marked by a spirit of adventure and achievement. She was a proud graduate of RL Turner High School's class of 1968 in Carrolton, Texas, and she carried her zest for life into her various pursuits. From racing cars to competing in rodeos, and even being crowned a beauty pageant winner, Wanda excelled in every endeavor. She also achieved professional certifications in cosmetology and reflexology, showcasing her diverse talents and interests.

Those who knew Wanda were blessed with a friend of the highest caliber. She was the steadfast companion who would stand by you through life's trials and triumphs. Her friendships were not fleeting but were nurtured with care and commitment, often lasting a lifetime. Wanda's selfless nature was the glue that held her relationships together, and her absence will leave a void that cannot be filled.

Her work history was as varied and rich as her personality. From her early days as a hotel desk clerk, where she managed the front lines of hospitality while raising her son, to her 20 years of dedication as an office manager at a local dealership in Corpus Christi, Wanda's work ethic and passion for service shone brightly. She was not only a role model for single women raising children on their own but also a tireless advocate for those with physical and mental challenges.

Her love for her family was immeasurable, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to her son Barry, daughter-in-law Jennifer, grandchildren Zachary and Zoe, sister-in-law Illene, her niece Jill with children Jacob and Jess, and nephew Casey with children Carole, Dakota K, Chase, Cole and Kyle.

Her interests were as colorful as her personality. Wanda had a deep respect for veterans, inspired by her brother Rodney, a Marine who served in Vietnam, and her father Jesse, a Korean War veteran. Gardening was among her favorite pastimes; she had the remarkable ability to nurture and grow any plant. Her love for the beach, sun, jazz music, and festivals were reflections of her appreciation for life's simple pleasures. An animal lover at heart, Wanda's compassionate spirit extended to all living creatures.

A quote that encapsulates Wanda's approach to life comes from the renowned poet, Maya Angelou: "Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud." Wanda embodied this sentiment, consistently being a source of light and comfort to others.

The world has lost a remarkable woman in Shelia Wandaleen Welsh. Her unwavering love, her generous spirit, and her selfless dedication to the well-being of others will forever be remembered and cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know her. Wanda's memory will live on as a testament to a life well-lived, full of love, service, and the joy she found in every day.
