Sheila's obituary

Sheila Ann Sexton, 78, of Goodrich, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. She was born in Greenup County, Kentucky on September 27, 1947 to the late Alden Jesse and Lou Ella Sexton.

Sheila was employed by Sea Ray Boats from 1972 until the plant's closing in 1991. She then worked for Rite Aid Drug Store as a manager until she retired in 2010. She graduated from McKell High School in South Shore, Kentucky in 1965. She was active in high school band and was later named "Miss Flame" by the South Shore Fire Department. On September 21, 1968, Sheila married Donald Lee Byrd in South Shore, Kentucky. The couple had been married 39 years at the time of Donald's death on April 22, 2006.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Sheila treasured her life with Donnie on their horse farm. They enjoyed participating in quarter horse racing and breeding, as well as training for various shows and competitions with their children. Sheila was an avid rider and loved sharing time with her family and friends on the scenic trails surrounding her farm. She enjoyed singing, winning many a karaoke contest. She also enjoyed cooking, traveling and spending time with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are four children, Sean P. Byrd of New Orleans, Louisiana, Amy D. Byrd of Lake Orion, Michigan, Amanda L.Byrd of Madison Heights, Michigan and Joseph B. Byrd of Goodrich, Michigan, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three siblings, Carol Duzan of Florida, Mike Sexton of Gahanna, Ohio and Stella Collier of London, Ohio.

Sheila was preceded in death by five siblings, Wanda, Denver, Teddy Bob, Olive and Larry.

There will be a gathering at Sheila's graveside at Sun Set Cemetery at the Quincy Church of Christ, 12116 E KY-8, Quincy, Kentucky at 4pm on Saturday, April 11. There will be a memorial service and Celebration of Sheila's Life at American Legion Post 105, 51 East First Street, London, Ohio at 12pm, followed by food at approximately 1pm.

Flowers and condolences can be sent to Stella Collier at 1600 State Route 29 NE, London, Ohio, 43140. Mrs. Collier requests that flowers and condolences not be sent until the Thursday before the memorial, starting on Thursday, 4/9.
