Shawn Nicholas Broussard was born on May 15, 1979 in Conroe, Texas to Terry Broussard and Peggy Rochelle Pickett Broussard. He has one sister, Rachel Broussard, who is three years younger.
As a young child, Shawn attended his neighborhood school, Clover Leaf Elementary School. He participated in the Gifted and Talented program. He attended North Shore Middle School and North Shore Highschool. As a kid he enjoyed playing basketball. Shawn lived with his family in Conroe, TX for his entire childhood. His father was a pipe inspector and his mom was a self-employed dog groomer. Shawn attributes his mom’s love of animals for his own love of animals. Deeply devoted to his mom, Shawn moved back home at the age of 28 to care for his mother when she became terminally ill. Sadly, he lost both of his parents in the fall of 2015.
Shawn married Shayla Allen on May 15, 2012, on his 33rd birthday. He and Shayla had a beautiful baby girl on August 20, 2013, Lola Rachelle. Shawn loved his daughter dearly. Shawn’s mother-in-law, Robin Allen, was a second mother to him and a consistent source of love and support throughout his adult life.
A devoted Christian, Shawn was a person of unwavering faith. He always carried a small New Testament Bible in his pocket and was very proud of the tattoo of a cross on his neck. Shawn was baptized on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017 in Cleveland, Texas. In Austin, Shawn attended church services at University United Methodist Church and St. David’s Episcopal Church. He loved both old, traditional hymns and also contemporary Christian music.
Shawn moved to Austin, TX in the fall of 2017. A lover of nature, he enjoyed spending his days in Zilker Park and walking throughout the city. He enjoyed listening and watching birds and squirrels. He often spent his time beatifying parks and streets by picking up trash, usually singing as he worked. Shawn loved all types of music. He also enjoyed reading, movies, and sit-coms. He was fond of poetry with Charles Bukowski, his favorite poet. Shawn wrote his own poetry and short stories. He was passionate about good food with his favorites being spicy tuna sushi rolls and barbacoa tacos. Shawn was beloved and will be greatly missed by his long-time case manager and friend, Emily Seales. Above all, Shawn was generous, caring, compassionate, funny, charming, honest, and loyal to those he loved.
While his time on earth is over, there is no doubt that he will live eternally surrounded by the loving arms of God who provided Shawn with strength, resilience, and peace. Shawn is survived by his daughter Lola, wife Shayla Allen Broussard; sister Rachel Broussard, mother-in-law Robin Allen, grandmother, aunts, and cousins. He was predeceased in death by his parents, Terry and Peggy Broussard.
