Shaw's obituary
In Loving Memory of Shaw Christensen
It has been a year since the world lost Shaw Christensen, and still the space he once filled feels far too big and far too empty. Shaw was larger than life—his presence, his heart, and his spirit all outsized anything most of us have ever known.
Shaw had a mind that could master anything he set it to. He was sharp, quick, and impossibly witty. A shark at chess, a master of anything with a motor or engine, and the kind of man who could fix both machines and moods with equal skill. His laugh was infectious—deep, unrestrained, and impossible not to join in on—and his personality could light up any room with ease.
He made friends in minutes. He could have you laughing on your worst days, and under the tough, giant stature was a hopeless romantic with the tenderest heart. I’ll never forget him zipping around in his work van, singing at the top of his lungs without a care who heard. He carried wisdom beyond his years, and he was always ready with a listening ear or a steady shoulder for anyone who needed it.
Shaw loved his family more than anything in this world. He often told stories about his parents’ home and how much joy he found in simply cutting trees on their property. Their annual salmon trip to Alaska was the highlight of his year, and when he came back, his eyes would light up as he told stories from the adventure for months afterward. His children were his heart and his pride—he often spoke about how strong, beautiful, and remarkable his girls were, the twins and Willow alike. He would beam when he talked about his son, Shaw Jr., calling him a caring, big-hearted young man who would protect his sisters at any cost. He would laugh and predict that one day Shaw Jr. would be as big as him, warning that the football team better watch out.
Shaw’s life was not without its battles. He fought demons that too many of us know. In the end, that fight took him from us, but he is finally at peace after a long, hard struggle.
He is missed deeply. The hole he left in the hearts of his friends and family will never be filled, but neither will the joy and love he gave ever be forgotten. To know him was to be changed by him, and for that, we will be forever grateful. Rest easy, little prince.
