Shaun's obituary
Shaun Milton Schoonover, 59, passed away peacefully at home in Baxter, Tennessee on Monday February 17, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and friends, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Shaun was a 1984 graduate of Green High School, where he played football and formed lifelong friendships.
Shaun is survived by his devoted wife, Lucinda (née Cunningham); his children, Joshua (Nicole) Collins, Joseph (Randi August) Collins, and Mary Geffert; his cherished grandchildren, Jadyn, Nolyn, Ethan, Alyssa, Emery, Alexis, Mason, Harley, and Jacob; and his great-grandchild, Kash. He is also lovingly remembered by his mother, Nancy, and his siblings, Charles (Debbie), Terry (Paula), Richard (Barbara), and Heather (Julio); and several beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Milton, and his mother-in-law, Irene.
Shaun had a deep passion for life. He found joy in motorcycle adventures with Lucinda and treasured the time he spent outdoors with his grandchildren, creating memories that will last a lifetime. A proud patriot, Shaun honorably served his country in the U.S. Army and the U.S. National Guard, including his service in Operation Desert Storm. Shaun was an active member of The VFW, The Liedertafel and The Sportsman’s Club in Barberton, Ohio.
Shaun will be remembered not only for his adventurous spirit but also for his sharp sense of humor, his generosity, his unwavering work ethic, and his willingness to help anyone in need. His kindness and dedication touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to his close friends Paula and Kraig Roberts, the compassionate staff at Gentiva Hospice and Baxter Primary School for their kindness and support during this time.
Funeral services will take place in Ohio on May 17, 2025 at Community Church of Portage Lakes at 11:00 am.
Shaun will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved him.
