Sharon's obituary
Sharon Katherine Polley Ramsey—a beloved daughter, devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and dear friend—passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 75. Born in Newark, New Jersey, she spent most of her life in the Garden State, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew her.
Sharon’s journey was one of love, resilience, and unwavering commitment. She was preceded in death by her partner, John William Cowan, with whom she shared 44 beautiful years. After John’s passing, Sharon made the courageous decision to relocate to Roswell, Georgia, to be closer to her family—a testament to her deep love for family.
Sharon is survived by her sons, Jon and Jason; their loving wives, Emily and Glenna; and her grandchildren—William, Matthew, Trevor, and Maya. As “Grammy” or affectionately known as “G-Money,” Sharon reveled in spending time with them. Whether picking up Matthew from school for Chinese food or imparting lessons in gentleman’s etiquette, she was a constant presence offering love and guidance.
She loved experimenting with recipes she discovered online, recreating restaurant dishes, and sharing family favorites. Corned beef, a cherished food tradition, graced their table on special occasions. And when it came to football, Sharon’s heart belonged to the New York Jets—a passion she shared with John William.
The Nutley Pub was the backdrop for many of Sharon’s escapades. She regaled her family and friends with tales of laughter, camaraderie, and shared memories. Sharon also had a penchant for wisdom—whether quoting her mother’s timeless advice (“make hay when the sun shines”) or unraveling the origins of old wives’ tales.
Sharon’s creativity knew no bounds. From designing buttons for the Nutley Saint Patrick’s Day parade to crafting personalized cards with folded-dollar surprises. Her digital publishing skills were unmatched, whether creating newsletters or school calendars. Sharon’s heart overflowed with kindness, and her gestures touched countless lives.
Her death was unexpected and untimely. She will be missed by everyone who was blessed to know her.
The memorial service will be held at S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St, Nutley, NJ 07110, on September 14, 2024, between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM. Following the service, a reception will provide an opportunity for friends and family to share their memories and celebrate Sharon’s life. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to St. Jude’s Hospital—an organization close to Sharon’s heart.
“Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day.” Rest in peace, dear Grammy. Your legacy lives on in our hearts.
