Sharon's obituary

In loving memory of Sharon Lee Shapiro Horn of Delray Beach, Florida, 83, who passed away in Boca Raton, Florida after several brave years of beating cancer. She is survived by her brother, Sanford Shapiro, of Rochester, NY, her children, Bevin Horn, of Edmonds, WA, Michael Horn, of Chicago, IL, grandchildren, Eleanor and Julieanne Reid, Greyson, Lincoln, Porter, and Wyatt Horn, and her partner, Marshall Deutsch. She also leaves behind Shapiro and Horn nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Rochester, NY in 1941, she first went to Stockton College in Stockton, California, married Richard Horn and moved to Gainesville, Florida. She then moved to Miami and she raised her children there and worked as an art teacher for Dade County Public Schools and at Miami Dade Community College. She finished her Bachelor of Arts at Barry University in Miami, FL. and took graduate courses in Fine Arts at University of Miami. She had her own studio, Sharon Hort Artworks. Her art work had class and sophistication. Sharon was a prominent artist displaying her work in shows and galleries. Through her adult life, she pursued many disciplines of art- dyeing yarn for weaving, painting, photography, knitting, and quilting. She also was a gourmet cook, loved comedy and traveled near and far to be with family, especially her grandchildren. She was an avid gardener, loved her orchids and had belonged to the South Florida Orchid Society, Vizcaya Gardens and Museum, the Palm Beach Quilting Bee and the Morikami Gardens and Museum. There will be a Hybrid Memorial Service at Temple Beth Am in Seattle, WA where she spent many summers on June 8th and a Celebration of Life in Delray Beach in December or January. Official date to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (https://ocrahope.org/) or the Morikami Gardens and Museum (https://morikami.org/)
