Sharon Leilani Grove passed away December 8, 2023 in Hixson, Tennessee. Cremation and no public memorial service occurred.
Sharon Leilani Dickey was born to Eugene Dickey and Agnes Powers Dickey in Honolulu, Hawaii on June 17, 1941. Present at the time of the bombing of Pearl Harbor in December 1941, the Dickey mother and children traveled by ship and spent the next six years in Salem, Massachusetts. In 1947, the Eugene Dickey family moved to Haines City, Florida. Mr. Dickey, a career Navy person and Florida native, had inherited a home. Sharon grew up in Haines City and attended Haines City High School, Class of 1959.
In December 1958, Sharon married Albert Yates Jr., a native of Winter Haven, Florida. Their three children, Stephen, Lori and Mitzi were all born in Winter Haven. In 1972, the Albert Yates family moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee. Sharon would spend the rest of her life in Tennessee.
In 2000, Sharon Yates married Fred Grove. They spent the remaining years of Sharon's life enjoying travel and family.
Sharon's greatest legacy is the family she nurtured and adored - her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Not just the matriarch, she was the heart of the family, guiding with a ubiquitous sense of humor. Her stories, often filled with wit and wisdom, will be retold at family gatherings, keeping her memory alive and vibrant. Sharon is preceded in death by her sister, Joan Rogers, and survived by her brothers, Gene Dickey of Jacksonville, Florida and Jim Dickey of Portland, Oregon; her children, Stephen Yates (Fala) of Mexico; Lori Leilani Cranfill (Louis) of Hixson, Tennessee; Mitzi Yates of Keizer, Oregon. She was a much loved "Nana" to grandchildren, Stevie Yates, Natalie Leilani Tice, Benjamin Jacobs, Andrew Dale Irwin, and great-grandchildren, James William Tice and Elizabeth Leilani Tice.
True to her wishes, Sharon's final resting place will be in New York City's Central Park, amidst the hustle and serenity she so loved.
