Sharon's obituary
Sharon faced life head-on with resilience and kindness. My mom was the strongest woman I’ve ever met. She wasn’t afraid of challenges or little bumps that would often be in her path. An early example of this was when she had to take her last college final test; she went into labor with her son during the four-hour test, and as she would say, “ the last hour was the longest because it was hard to concentrate on the questions and at the same time remind herself not to push.” The taxi met her at the bottom of the stair, and off they went to Northwest Hospital to give birth to a 9lb baby boy. Then seventeen years later, as her baby boy was graduating high school, she went back to school and graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a master’s in nursing administration. She was a dedicated nurse and caregiver all her life.
Sharon was a loving grandmother, mother, daughter, wife, and friend first and foremost. She treasured her children and family and embraced every moment with them, instilling in her daughter’s strong values that served them well. She especially loved her role as Nana. Her grandson had a life full of exciting adventures with her. Weekly, I would receive a phone call explaining that they, Sharon and Tanner needed just a little assistance.
For example ….They needed help getting pulled out of the mud because they had decided to go four-wheeling in her electric chair and got stuck…… They had wandered too far from home and did not have the energy to make it back……. They had gotten just a little too close to the creek and may have accidentally fallen in….. Or they had gotten hungry and stopped for a bite to eat only to discover they had no money.
These adventures were Nana’s way of teaching that happiness is not a destination but a way of life, a way of being!!
She had a quiet way of being that drew people to her and what they discovered was peace, calm, and happiness within themselves.
Sharon lived a full life, and it broke our hearts to lose her. A part of us went with her.
If tears could build a stairway and heartaches make a lane, we’d walk our way to heaven and bring her back to us. In life, we loved her dearly; in death, we love her still; in our hearts, she holds a place no one will ever fill.
